Road Rehabilitation on Donald Cousens Parkway and Ninth Line

York Region is removing and replacing asphalt road surface on:

• Donald Cousens Parkway from near Highway 407 to 16th Avenue
• Ninth Line from near Donald Cousens Parkway to 16th Avenue
  • Traces of asbestos, used in asphalt mixes in the 1970s and 1980s, are present in the current asphalt on Donald Cousens Parkway and Ninth Line
  • While the risk of asbestos exposure is low, York Region’s contractor will take precautionary measures during asphalt removal
• Intersection improvements on Ninth Line at Donald Cousens Parkway and at Bur Oak Avenue
  • Upgrading traffic signals and installing new infrastructure to improve accessibility
  • Reconstructing crosswalk ramps, including zebra crosswalk markings
  • These improvements will benefit the community and keep the road in a good state of repair
• Replacing roadside curbs near maintenance holes and catch basins and adjusting covers

Duration: June to fall 2026

Impacts to Travellers

• The road will remain open to through traffic; however, temporary lane closures are required Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
• Access to homes and businesses will be maintained

As with all construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible
