York Region Highlights The Queensway South at Community Open House
York Region hosted a community open house for The Queensway South development on Tuesday, February 24, welcoming close to 100 residents, local businesses and community partners. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the development and share valuable feedback that will help shape next steps.
The Queensway South development will deliver 86 new housing units, including 32 community housing units, 18 transitional housing units and 36 emergency housing units. The development will also provide approximately 8,000 square feet of dedicated community space designed to strengthen local services, support local organizations, and create new opportunities for the broader Georgina community.
This development represents an important step forward in addressing the growing need for community, transitional and emergency housing in York Region, while also creating meaningful community space to better serve the community. The development received unanimous support from Town of Georgina Council and is further supported by the Region’s Housing and Homelessness Committee and Regional Council. The Town of Georgina has also committed $3 million to the development, with funding made available through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Housing Accelerator Fund and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s Building Faster Fund. The development reflects a strong partnership and shared commitment to meeting housing needs and enhancing community well-being across Georgina and the Region.
The strong turnout and thoughtful dialogue at the community open house marked an important milestone for The Queensway South. The Community Liaison Committee will provide important input that will help inform the design phase of this project. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026, bringing The Queensway South development one step closer to delivering much-needed housing and community space to the Town of Georgina.
