Recycle to Ride
Every year, thousands of bicycles are thrown away or recycled for scrap metal. Many of these bicycles can be easily repaired and reused, while others can be used for parts.
Together with Markham Cycles, York Region is collecting unwanted bicycles to be repaired and refurbished so they can get back on the road where they belong.

Markham Cycles hosts a series of bicycle rescue clinics each year where volunteer fixers provide repairs. These bicycles are then given away to the community for free at monthly giveaway events from June to September.
Markham Cycles will be hosting more bicycle giveaways in York Region in 2026. Stay tuned for dates, locations and registration details.
