Road Rehabilitation on McCowan Road
York Region is removing and replacing asphalt road surface on McCowan Road from Stouffville Road to Bloomington Road. Traces of asbestos, used in asphalt mixes throughout the 1970s and 1980s, are present on McCowan Road. While the risk of asbestos exposure is low, York Region’s contractor will take precautionary measures during asphalt removal. The Region is repairing and replacing culverts that allow water to flow freely under the road and driveways. Property owners will be contacted by the contractor prior to driveway culvert work. Guiderails will be repaired and replaced to provide a barrier between the roadway and potential hazards. Cleaning of roadside ditches will also occur. Temporary road closures are required to complete this work.
