Maintenance Work at York Regional Forest Pefferlaw Tract
The Regional Municipality of York is completing maintenance work in the York Regional Forest Pefferlaw Tract at 24408 Lake Ridge Road in the Town of Georgina. Damaged fencing will be removed, large boulders will be installed and then fencing will be replaced along Forestry Drive to enhance visitor safety and protect and preserve the Forest. Work will begin in the fall of 2026.
The tract will remain open but trails that start and end at Forestry Drive will be closed while work is taking place. Work will take place on weekdays. Visitors are reminded to stay clear of equipment and operations.
This work is being done as part of our regular Forest maintenance and to discourage unauthorized motorized vehicle use including all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), dirt bikes and snowmobiles, which are not permitted in the Forest. Use of these vehicles causes damage to trails, disturbs wildlife, can destroy sensitive habitats and disrupts the ecological integrity of the Forest. These vehicles also pose a potential danger to Forest visitors.
Those operating ATVs, dirt bikes or snowmobiles in the Forest, including Pefferlaw Tract, can be charged by the York Regional Police under the Trespass to Property Act. If you see someone driving an unauthorized motorized vehicle in the Forest, contact the York Regional Police nonemergency number at 1-866-876-5423.
