Increasing Resiliency of York Region Seniors to Extreme Heat
York Region is conducting a survey to understand how York Region seniors deal with extreme heat (which includes hot weather and “heat waves”). We are inviting seniors and caregivers of seniors who live in York Region to participate in this survey. This survey is part of a study funded by Health Canada, led by Morgan Levison.
Your Participation
- Your participation in this survey is your choice
- Your answers will be anonymous
- You may stop the survey at any time. But after you submit it, your answers cannot be removed
- The survey will take about 15 minutes and can be completed on or before October 26, 2026
- We will ask about your knowledge, attitudes and experiences with extreme heat
- We will also ask about your background, such as your gender, race, and housing situation. Research shows that factors like where people live and their background can affect how heat impacts their health. Your answers will guide planning for programs that promote health for everyone
- Questions cannot be skipped, but you may choose the ‘prefer not to answer’ option
- In the open-ended questions, please do not volunteer any information that may identify you or others
- There are no known risks to completing this survey. Your choice to participate will not affect any services you receive from York Region
Information Collection and Storage
We will store your survey answers on a secure server at York Region, governed by York Region retention rules. The survey will be completed on the York Region website. Learn more about the website Terms of Use.
We will use the information we collect for planning, reporting and research. Only members of the analysis team will have access to the data. We will share the findings of the study on york.ca, with Health Canada, and may also share them in future publications or presentations. Any personal information collected will not be disclosed or included in study reports. When you finish the survey, you may choose to enter a draw to win one of four $25 President’s Choice gift cards. The chance of winning will depend on the number of people who enter the draw. About 700 people are expected to participate. Additional details will be provided after the survey is submitted.
