York Region Thanks Workers
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I wish everyone a cheerful, celebratory and safe Labour Day. Today, we recognize all workers whose service, dedication and skills strengthen our communities and support our economy.
Labour Day is an important reminder to honour the work individuals contribute each day to make our communities and world a better place. Today is also a time to reflect on the progress made in advancing workers’ rights across our Region, Ontario and Canada.
I also acknowledge and thank all York Region employees. Your commitment to making our communities strong, caring and safe does not go unnoticed. Due to your efforts, our residents benefit from the everyday services that shape life in York Region. From the clean water that comes from our taps, the roads that keep us moving, the beautiful trails and green spaces we explore, the paramedics and public health teams who keep us safe and the policing and infrastructure services that support our growing communities, your efforts help people live well and thrive across York Region.
Regional Council remains focused on improving the quality of life for both workers and employees. With more than 1.3 million residents and over 58,000 businesses with 624,000 employees who work across our nine cities and towns, York Region continues to grow as a vibrant, diverse and resilient community.
As we move forward, we must remain committed to ensuring every workplace is inclusive, equitable and safe so all workers can succeed. Today, every worker should feel proud of their contributions and hopeful about the future we continue to build together.
Happy Labour Day, everyone.
