Supporting Growing Communities Through Capital Construction Projects
York Region is advancing a series of capital projects designed to keep people, goods and services moving efficiently across one of Ontario’s fastest growing communities and provide safe, cost-efficient and reliable water and wastewater services to residents, businesses and communities.
These upcoming projects reflect the Region’s long standing commitment to investing in safe, reliable and well planned infrastructure that meets the needs of residents today and well into the future.
Building Roads for a Growing Region
As population and employment continue to expand across York Region, more travellers, businesses and services rely on the regional road network every day. With the population projected to reach 2.06 million by 2051, planning is essential to manage congestion and ensure the long-term health of roads, bridges and active transportation corridors.
The 2026 capital program focuses on improvements that:
- Help support population growth
- Improve traffic flow and travel reliability
- Extend the life of roads and bridges
- Enhance safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists
These improvements help reduce bottlenecks and travel delays, support active transportation and safer pedestrian crossings, improve reliability for transit and emergency services and maintain critical links between towns and cities.
Investing in Infrastructure That Benefits Everyone
York Region continues to prioritize transportation investments that deliver wide ranging community benefits. From resurfacing projects that maintain road quality, to major reconstructions and corridor expansions, each project plays a role in supporting the daily movement of residents, local businesses and essential services.
The Region also continues to invest in critical infrastructure and advance a wide range of projects to ensure residents have access to safe, reliable drinking water. At the same time, the Region is proactively constructing and upgrading wastewater systems designed to accommodate future development, helping to maintain high environmental standards while supporting planned growth. Together, these initiatives reinforce York Region’s commitment to building strong, sustainable communities both now and for generations to come.
Setting the Foundation for 2026 and Beyond
The 2026 capital projects program reflects years of planning, strategic investment and evidence based decision making to ensure regional infrastructure keeps pace with growth. By focusing on both immediate needs and long range sustainability, York Region is laying the groundwork for a transportation network and water and wastewater services that remain resilient, safe and ready to support a thriving community.
