Careers in Early Learning and Child Care
Early learning and child care (ELCC) professionals play an integral role in supporting the healthy development of young children. Early childhood educators (ECEs) are committed to nurturing the social, emotional and cognitive skills children need to become lifelong learners, while supporting the well-being of families and parents.
A career working with children is fun, active and creative and allows individuals to inspire young minds, support early development, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families.
York Region is committed to supporting and strengthening our child care sector and our early learning and child care professionals. The Region recognizes there is a need for more educators and is encouraging students, newcomers and individuals looking for a change in career to consider becoming an early learning and child care (ELCC) professional or early childhood educator (ECE).
In addition to employment opportunities, apprenticeship positions are also available in the Region’s 615 licensed child care sites, 25 licensed home child care agency providers and 60 EarlyON locations.
For individuals already working in the child care sector, York Region offers professional development opportunities for ELCC professionals and various training and funding supports for child care operators.
