A Statement from York Region Chairman and CEO Eric Jolliffe

Serving as York Region Chairman and CEO has been one of the greatest honours of my public service, and I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me. 

When I was appointed by the Province of Ontario in December 2024, I committed to completing the remainder of this term of York Regional Council. I also made it a priority to work collaboratively with Members of Council, our exceptional staff, local municipal partners, the Province and community organizations to advance the priorities that matter most to our residents. As this term of Council comes to an end, I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together.

Over the past two years, Regional Council has made important decisions that will have a lasting impact on York Region's future. We have strengthened community safety through significant investments in police and paramedic services, advanced affordable housing and homelessness initiatives, supported responsible growth and taken steps to make new homes more attainable. We have continued to invest in the roads, transit, water and wastewater infrastructure that connect our communities and support our growing population, while maintaining the essential services residents depend on every day.

Leading an organization responsible for $5.3 billion in annual services and infrastructure means every decision directly affects more than 1.3 million residents who call York Region home. I have valued the opportunity to work alongside Council, staff and our partners to meet today’s needs while planning for the Region’s future.

I did not apply for reappointment as York Region Chairman and CEO. I am deeply grateful to the Province for the opportunity to have served in this role and for the trust placed in me. I also want to recognize the dedication of Regional Council, our staff, local municipal partners and community organizations. Their commitment has been central to the progress achieved during this term. 

I am confident the 2026 to 2030 term of York Regional Council will continue this important work, building on the progress we have made and advancing the priorities that matter most to our residents. 

It has been a privilege to serve York Region, and I wish the incoming Council every success in the important work ahead.
