Municipal Water Supply
York Region collects, treats, stores and distributes water to the Towns of Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Newmarket, Whitchurch-Stouffville, the Township of King and the Cities of Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan.
In turn, these nine local cities and towns deliver it to residential, commercial, industrial and institutional users, and collect money to cover the cost of these services.
The Region’s water comes from three sources: Lake Ontario, Lake Simcoe and groundwater wells. Some residents get their water from private wells located on their property.
