Celebrating PRIDE Month 2026
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I am pleased to recognize June 2026 as Pride Month.
Pride Month recognizes the resilience, celebrates the talent and recognizes the contributions of Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer and Intersex communities (2SLGBTQI+).
Pride Season is a term referring to the many events held from June to September. While special attention is put on the Pride events during the summer months, they happen throughout the year in many communities across York Region.
This time invites reflection on the progress made toward equity and inclusion, while also uplifting 2SLGBTQI+ voices and strengthening our collective commitment to ensuring everyone feels safe to be their authentic selves.
As affirmed by the Inclusion Charter for York Region, York Region is committed to a welcoming and inclusive community where diversity is celebrated and where everyone can develop to their full potential, participate freely in society and live with respect, dignity and freedom from discrimination.
We all have a role to play to ensure York Region is a welcoming, inclusive and safe place for everyone.
To honour this month, the clock tower at the York Region Administrative Centre, located at 17250 Yonge Street in the Town of Newmarket, will be illuminated in PRIDE flag colours on Monday, June 1, 2026. The PRIDE flag will be raised on Friday, June 5, 2026, at York Region Paramedic Services Headquarters, located at 80 Bales Drive East in the Town of East Gwillimbury.
On behalf of Regional Council and our1.3 million residents who call York Region home, I wish everyone a safe, meaningful and celebratory Pride Month.
