York Region Students Stir Up Creativity Through Reel Recipes Video Contest
York Region is celebrating the creativity, skill and enthusiasm of local students following the conclusion of the Reel Recipes Student Video Contest.
The contest invited students to submit original videos showcasing simple, nutritious meals made with accessible ingredients. Its goal was to inspire young people to cook at home, build confidence in the kitchen and discover that healthy eating can be practical, enjoyable and creative. Students from across York Region took part, with some schools integrating the contest into classroom projects focused on nutrition, media literacy and life skills.
Congratulations to the Winners!

This flexibility reinforced important messages about budgeting, reducing food waste and making sustainable choices.
Health and nutrition were central to the contest, with students highlighting the benefits of fresh, whole ingredients and demonstrating how cooking at home can reduce sugar, salt and saturated fat compared to processed foods. Many connect healthy eating to feeling energized and supporting overall physical and mental well-being, while emphasizing the social and emotional value of cooking as a way to connect with family and friends, share culture, express creativity and find calm in a busy world.
