Upgrades are underway at the Georgina Water Treatment Plant
York Region is improving water infrastructure to continue providing safe, cost-efficient and reliable water services. Upgrades are underway at the Georgina Water Treatment Plant and Pumping Station, along with replacement of the mussel control piping in Lake Simcoe.
York Region consulted provincial and federal regulatory agencies and obtained all necessary permits.
Description
- Replacing mussel control piping systems that protect vital water infrastructure from invasive quagga mussels
- Improving the access road to the water treatment facility
- Upgrading the stormwater management system
- Installing a twinned raw watermain along Kennedy Road, connecting the low lift pumping station to the water treatment plant
- Removing trees under the guidance of a certified arborist; replanting in Willow Wharf Park when work is completed
Duration
Spring 2026 to Winter 2027
- Weather and lake conditions will affect the work schedule
- General working hours are Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Weekend and overnight work will occur as needed
Impacts
- No planned impacts to water services
- Willow Wharf Park will be closed to accommodate construction
- Use of Malone Wharf at Jackson’s Point Harbour by the contractor
- Closure of Kennedy Road at Lake Drive East; access to all homes and businesses maintained via Metro Road
- Temporary traffic signals at the intersection of Kennedy Road and Lake Drive East
Noise mitigation measures and monitoring will be implemented.
