Honouring the power and impact of nurses in York Region
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I am proud to recognize May 11 to 17, 2026, as National Nursing Week.
This year’s theme, The Power of Nurses to Transform Health, continues to highlight the extraordinary role nurses play in shaping a strong, more responsive health care system. Through their expertise, compassion and leadership, nurses are driving meaningful change and advancing patient-centred care across York Region communities.
In York Region, our public health and long-term care nurses demonstrate this impact every day. Public Health nurses are at the forefront of prevention and health promotion, delivering essential programs that support healthier communities. In our long-term care homes, nurses provide skilled, compassionate care that ensures residents live with dignity, comfort and respect.
Their dedication, professionalism and commitment, especially in times of increasing complexity and demand, continue to strengthen our health system and improve the lives of those they serve.
During National Nursing Week, we extend our sincere thanks to all nurses across York Region. Your contributions are invaluable and your care makes a lasting difference.
