York Region improving school safety during back-to-school season

Newmarket – Members of the media are invited to join The Regional Municipality of York and traffic safety partners York Regional Police, York Region Paramedic Services, Ministry of Transportation and Canadian Automobile Association South Central Ontario (CAA) for the unveiling of new road safety measures in Township of King to promote enhanced safety in school zones across York Region.

What:
Join York Region, York Regional Police, York Region Paramedic Services, Ministry of Transportation and CAA to highlight new road safety measures implemented in school zones across the Region.

New school zone safety measures include:

  • Speed reduction pavement markings such as optical speed bars which signal drivers to slow down
  • Wider, more visible pavement markings, including centre lines, lane lines, and edge lines, helping drivers better understand lane position and road alignment
  • “Do Not Block” pavement markings at school entrances to improve access and visibility
  • “SLOW DOWN” pavement markings, outlined in the multi-year York Region Vision Zero Traveller Safety Plan
  • Additional signage to indicate pedestrian crossing areas; assisting students get to and from school safely
