York Region hosts Canadian Citizenship Ceremony during Welcoming Week
Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York, in partnership with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), is inviting media to a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony where 30 candidates will take the oath to become Canadian citizens.

Background:
- Hosted by The Regional Municipality of York and conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the Canadian Citizenship Ceremony is a special, dignified and meaningful occasion where individuals take an oath to become Canadian
- The ceremony is an opportunity for citizenship candidates to reflect on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and celebrate with their family, friends and the local community
- Global Welcoming Week is September 10 to 19, 2026, and is a time to celebrate newcomers and reaffirm York Region’s commitment to building welcoming and inclusive communities
- York Region supports newcomers through initiatives like the Local Immigration Partnership and A Place to Thrive: York Region’s Plan for Newcomer Inclusion, which outlines the collective actions to support newcomers and immigrants; one action within the plan is the Region-wide Welcoming Week
