York Region extends condolences following tragic incident at CFB Wainwright

On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I extend my deepest sympathies to the families, friends and colleagues of those who have lost their lives in the tragic incident at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, Alberta. Our thoughts are also with those who have been injured and everyone affected by this devastating event.

We hold the brave women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces in the highest regard. Their service, commitment and sacrifice in protecting our country deserve our enduring respect and gratitude. We recognize the difficult circumstances facing military personnel, their families and the surrounding community at this time.

I also express sincere appreciation to the military personnel, firefighters, paramedics, police and all emergency responders working under challenging conditions to protect lives and support those affected.

On behalf of York Region, we stand with all those grieving and extend our heartfelt condolences to everyone impacted by this tragedy. In honour of lives lost, flags at York Region facilities located at 17250 Yonge Street and 17150 Yonge Street in the Town of Newmarket have been lowered to half mast.
