Health and Well-Being Review
The world is constantly changing. Environmental, political, economic and social shifts occurring more frequently, with impacts that inevitably reach our communities. These shifts can affect everything from local job markets to housing demand, to healthcare needs.
Through regular analysis to identify and understand trends in York Region, how they affect residents and the demand for human services, we can plan responsive budgets, allocate resources effectively, and design programs and services that address resident needs before they become acute or widespread.
The Review highlights Community and Health Services programs, key investments made by Regional Council, and the importance of integrated partnerships and advocacy in helping residents continue to thrive.
Leveraging the most current and reliable data the annual Health and Well-Being Review provides a comprehensive analysis of demographic, socio-economic factors and overall health and well-being trends and how York Region is responding to the evolving needs of residents.

Why did York Region undertake this Review?
The annual Review reflects York Region’s commitment to deliver responsive and effective services that meet the changing needs of our residents. It builds a common understanding of the community's strengths, challenges and opportunities across the Region, municipal and community partners and other levels of government. This will inform community engagement, system planning and funding for programs to meet resident needs.
The Region is one player in a complex human services system that supports our residents. Addressing current and future needs requires collaborative planning, advocacy and evidence-based innovation with all levels of government, municipalities, non-profit and community organizations, and the private sector.
What do the Review findings mean for residents?
The Review reflects the pressures many residents are facing including a high cost of living, income insecurity and housing affordability challenges. It tells the story behind the data—what emerging trends mean for people’s day-to-day lives and how those trends are shaping demand for services.
These factors may influence social connections, community well-being and individual health.
The Review highlights services available to residents, Regional Council investments, and collaborative efforts with partners to deliver sustainable and responsive solutions – reinforcing the important role of partnership and advocacy in supporting residents’ well-being and resilience.
How does York Region take action to address findings in the annual Review?
York Region delivers critical human and health service programs to support residents. However, ensuring residents' health and well-being is a shared responsibility that demands support from all levels of government. The Region continues to share and mobilize knowledge between partners and align efforts for continued advocacy to senior levels of government for sustainable funding and collaborative solutions to current challenges.
How can this information support planning and advocacy?
To help turn insight into action and support evidence-informed planning and advocacy, knowledge mobilization materials are provided to raise awareness of demographic, socio-economic and overall health and well-being trends highlighted in the York Region Health and Well-Being Review.
