Guided walks
Each walk targets specific age groups; children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and opens a month in advance.
Become a Community Scientist
Learn how to become a community scientist at the York Regional Forest! Use tools like iNaturalist to record and report species observations and learn tips and tricks to take clear, identifiable photos while in nature.

Join us for an introductory walk to meet the York Regional Forest! Discover hidden gems while learning tips and tricks to identify various trees and plants found across the Region.

Learn how to identify invasive species in the York Regional Forest and how to avoid planting them in your garden. Also find out which native plants will entice butterflies and bees to your yard.

National Forest Week
Celebrate National Forest Week in the York Regional Forest! Visit the Bill Fisch Forest Stewardship and Education Centre, take a walk in the forest and create a nature-themed craft.

Frequently asked questions
Will COVID-19 precautions be in place during the guided walks?
York Region Public Health continues to strongly recommend the use of masks in the three 3Cs – confined spaces, crowds or in close contact with someone, especially if they are vulnerable or immunocompromised. We ask that you stay home if you are not feeling well.
Can I still register for a walk or event if I don’t live in York Region?
Yes, residents living outside of York Region can register for a walk or event.
Will the walk or event be cancelled if it’s raining or if there is a snowstorm?
Walks and events are held rain or shine, however, they may be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions (i.e., extreme heat or cold, lightning storm, snowstorm, freezing rain, etc.). In the event of a cancellation, people registered for a walk or event will be contacted directly at the email address or phone number provided at the time of registration.
Will the Discover Your Forest kits be made available again?
