York Region mourns the death of Ontario Provincial Police Constable Tarun Bali
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Ontario Provincial Police Constable Tarun Bali, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on June 9, 2026.
Constable Bali served with the OPP for more than two years, dedicating himself to protecting and serving communities across Ontario. His commitment to public safety, including his work with the Dufferin detachment and his recent deployment to the James Bay detachment, reflected the courage, professionalism and selflessness police officers demonstrate every day.
The loss of a police officer in the line of duty is a profound tragedy felt not only by their loved ones and policing colleagues, but by communities across the province. In moments like this we are reminded of the risks first responders face as they work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.
As we mourn this unnecessary loss, we honour Constable Bali's service and sacrifice and stand in solidarity with the Ontario Provincial Police and the broader law enforcement community. His dedication to serving others will not be forgotten.
In recognition of Constable Bali, York Region flags will be lowered to half-mast as a sign of respect and remembrance.
Our thoughts are with all those grieving this tremendous loss.
