York Region Mourns Death of OPP Sergeant Brandon Malcolm
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I extend deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Brandon Malcolm.
Sgt. Malcolm, a six-year veteran of the OPP, was killed in a single vehicle accident while serving in the line of duty on Monday, April 27, 2026. Prior to joining the OPP, Sgt. Malcolm served as an auxiliary member of the Toronto Police Service and with the Canadian Armed Forces.
The loss of a member of a police service is a loss to all who call our communities home. The women and men who selflessly and bravely serve in the RCMP, OPP and local police forces do so to protect the safety and well-being of our residents and our communities.
Every day, those who serve and protect our communities put themselves at risk to uphold our laws and help those in need. Today, we offer our support to all first responders as they mourn the loss of a colleague in uniform.
I join Regional Council, the York Regional Police Service Board, the residents of York Region and those in uniform celebrating the life and mourning the loss of a dedicated and hard-working member of the OPP.
We will keep Sgt. Malcolm, his family and his colleagues in our hearts as we collectively grieve this terrible loss. In honour of the life and service of Sgt. Malcolm, flags at the York Region Administrative Centre located at 17250 Yonge Street in the Town of Newmarket will be lowered to half mast.
