York Region mourns the death of Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto, tragically killed in the line of duty today.
For 18 years, Constable Pinizzotto served with courage, dedication and an unwavering commitment to protecting others. Every day, police officers and first responders answer the call to serve, placing themselves in harm's way to keep our communities safe. Today, we mourn the loss of a dedicated hero.
This heartbreaking loss comes as police services and communities across Ontario are grieving the death of Ontario Provincial Police Constable Tarun Bali, killed in the line of duty just two days earlier. The loss of two officers in a matter of days is a profound tragedy that weighs heavily on those who wear a uniform in service to others.
These deaths are a stark reminder of the risks police officers and first responders face every day. While most of us go about our daily lives, they willingly step into difficult and dangerous situations to protect our families, our neighbourhoods and our communities. Their service requires extraordinary courage, and their sacrifice should never be taken for granted.
As we mourn alongside the Toronto Police Service, we honour Constable Pinizzotto’s life, service and sacrifice. We also stand with the women and men of police services, paramedic services, fire services and all first responders who serve with professionalism and courage in the face of unimaginable loss.
In recognition of the service and sacrifice of both Constable Pinizzotto and Constable Bali, York Region flags, which were lowered on June 10, 2026, will remain at half-mast as a sign of respect and remembrance.
Our thoughts are with the families, friends, colleagues and loved ones of both officers and with all who are grieving these tragic losses.
