York Region releases Year 2 (2024) Progress Report on 2023 to 2027 Strategic Plan
Newmarket – York Regional Council received the Year 2 (2024) Progress Report on the 2023 to 2027 Strategic Plan, demonstrating positive progress in achieving York Region’s priorities over this term of Regional Council. In 2024, 35 of 48 performance measures, representing 73%, were trending in the desired direction.
“This progress report reflects Regional Council’s shared commitment to service excellence and delivering results for our residents,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Eric Jolliffe. “We are investing where it matters most – in infrastructure, housing, transit, health and sustainability – and we are measuring that progress to remain accountable to the residents and businesses we serve.”
The 2023 to 2027 Strategic Plan provides a detailed course of action over this term of Council. The plan is tracked, measured and reported annually to ensure progress is made on the priorities set over this term of Council: Economic Vitality, Healthy Communities, Sustainable Environment and Good Government.
Highlights from the Year 2 Progress Report include:
- Achieved record high transit ridership, surpassing pre-pandemic ridership levels
- Advanced planning and development for 675 new community housing units
- Planted 122,985 trees and shrubs through the Regional Greening Strategy Program
Recognized by Forbes as one of Canada’s Best Employers in 2024 for the fourth consecutive year

To continue building on the progress made and support long-term planning, Regional Council has approved a Special Meeting on Council’s Vision for Thursday, September 4, 2025. This session will help inform the development of the Region’s next Strategic Plan for 2027 to 2031, ensuring York Region remains focused on the evolving needs and priorities of residents and businesses.
