Winter Update - Yonge Street from Davis Drive to Green Lane
York Region is transforming Yonge Street from Davis Drive to Green Lane to meet travel needs and support growth and development in the Town of Newmarket and Town of East Gwillimbury.
The advance construction phase is complete, and crews will start road widening in the months ahead. Thank you, residents and travellers for your patience while improvements are underway.
Phase 1 Completed: Fall 2024
Prepared for road widening and updated infrastructure
2021 to 2024
- Relocated utilities and telecommunications
- Built noise barrier fences, retaining walls and temporary sidewalks
- Replaced storm sewers, culverts and watermains
- Installed hydro poles, lighting and traffic signals
Phase 2 Start: Summer 2025 Yonge Street widening and reconstruction
Yonge Street widening and reconstruction
2025 to 2027
- Adding capacity, increasing from four to six lanes
- Installing new, wider sidewalks and cycle tracks
- Creating a centre median to reserve space for future rapid transit
- Paving the roadway and completing streetscaping

During construction use traffic and navigation apps to help you plan your commute and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. We will monitor traffic flow and adjust signal timing to keep traffic moving as efficiently as possible.
