York Region celebrates Year of the Snake
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, it is my pleasure to extend warmest wishes to everyone across our communities celebrating Lunar New Year.
Lunar New Year is a cherished holiday for East and Southeast Asian communities, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and others. This special time of year is an opportunity to reflect on the past, honour household and heavenly traditions and look forward to the future with hope and optimism.
As one of Canada’s most diverse and fastest-growing municipalities, York Region takes pride in its vibrant multicultural identity. Over 55% of our residents identify as visible minorities, with Chinese communities forming the largest visible minority group. This rich diversity strengthens our Region and enriches every aspect of community life.
Celebrating Lunar New Year allows us to recognize and honour the remarkable contributions of our Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and other Asian residents to the cultural, social and economic fabric of York Region. Their traditions and values play a vital role in shaping our communities and contribute to the vibrant quality of life we all can enjoy.
On behalf of Regional Council and more than 1.25 million people who call York Region home, I wish all those celebrating the Year of the Snake health, prosperity, happiness and peace.
Happy Lunar New Year!
