Celebrating physicians and first responders
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I am proud to recognize May 1, 2025, as National Physicians and First Responders Day.
Today, we celebrate the remarkable individuals who dedicate their lives to the health, safety and well-being of our communities. Our physicians and first responders – including paramedics, police officers, firefighters, nurses, doctors, military personal, dispatchers and all emergency responders – demonstrate an unwavering commitment to serving others, often in the most challenging and critical moments.
Their courage, professionalism and compassion are the foundation of safe, resilient communities across York Region. Every call answered, every life saved and every family supported is a powerful reminder of their extraordinary impact. We also take this opportunity to honour and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
Their service is not just a profession – it is a calling. Their unwavering dedication strengthens our communities and provides peace of mind to residents, knowing help is always within reach. For their selflessness, leadership and strength, we offer our deepest gratitude.
On behalf of the more than 1.26 million residents who call York Region home, thank you for being there when we need you most and for helping keep our communities strong, healthy and safe.
