York Region celebrates Pride Month 2025
As Pride Month unfolds across Canada, York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York proudly stand in solidarity with our 2SLGBTQI+ communities – Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and additional sexually and gender diverse – and all individuals across the spectrum of sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions.
Pride Month is a time to honour the resilience, celebrate the talents and recognize the invaluable contributions of the 2SLGBTQI+ community. It is also a moment to reflect on the ongoing journey toward equality and the work that remains to ensure every individual feels seen, heard and valued.
York Region is one of Canada's fastest growing and most diverse municipalities. We embrace all dimensions of diversity and are grounded in the belief that our greatest strength lies in celebrating and valuing everyone's unique differences and contributions. As affirmed by the Inclusion Charter for York Region, we are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community where diversity is celebrated, and everyone can live with respect, dignity and freedom from discrimination.
This Pride Month let's come together to uplift 2SLGBTQI+ voices and acknowledge the steps we can all take to create communities where everyone can be their authentic and true selves.
In recognition of Pride Month, the clock tower at the York Region Administrative Centre, located at 17250 Yonge Street in the Town of Newmarket, will be illuminated with the Pride flag colours on Monday, June 2, 2025.
On behalf of Regional Council and the more than 1.26 million residents who call our communities home, I extend my best wishes for a joyful and meaningful Pride Month.
