The Regional Municipality of York and Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4900 reach agreement on new collective agreement
Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York is pleased to announce ratification of a new collective agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4900.
“York Region has a long-standing history of working with our union partners to reach agreements that are mutually fair and respectful for our dedicated staff, who deliver our services to nearly 1.3 million residents who rely on them daily,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Eric Jolliffe. “This agreement helps ensure the Region remains focused on meeting the growing needs of our communities.”
The agreement follows a series of negotiations between the two parties over the past several months and will run until March 31, 2029.
Services provided by CUPE Local 4900 staff include engineering for large infrastructure projects such as affordable housing, water and wastewater operations, maintenance for regional roads, administrative support, transit, public health, social services, courts services, waste management and paramedic services.
Details of this new agreement include a total wage increase of 12.75% over the four-year contract term.
York Regional Council ratified this agreement at a meeting held on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
