Flags lowered at York Region facilities in recognition of National Day of Mourning
Today, York Regional Council joins communities throughout Ontario and Canada in recognizing National Day of Mourning. Across York Region, flags are lowered at Regional facilities as we pause to honour workers who have lost their lives, those who have been injured or made ill and the families and communities forever changed.
Behind every statistic is a person. A parent, a partner, a friend, a colleague. Each loss is deeply felt, and each story reminds us why this day matters.
At 11 a.m., we join others across the country in a moment of silence and reaffirm our shared responsibility to ensure every worker returns home safely at the end of the day.
Workplace injuries and fatalities are preventable. This day calls on all of us to strengthen our commitment to health and safety, to look out for one another and to foster a culture where safety is not just a requirement, but a core value in everything we do.
To those who continue to feel the impact of workplace incidents, whether you are grieving, healing or supporting others, please know you are not alone. We stand with you and remain committed to building safer, healthier workplaces across York Region.
Let this day serve as a reminder that safety is a responsibility we carry together, today and every day.
