York Region is widening and improving Ninth Line/Donald Cousens Parkway in the City of Markham to accommodate growth and provide more transportation options.
Benefits to Travellers and the Community
Ninth Line/Donald Cousens Parkway from Steeles Avenue to Fieldside Street:
- Road widening and new infrastructure to service the community
- Widening Ninth Line/Donald Cousens Parkway from Steeles Avenue to Fieldside Street, including the railway crossing, increasing capacity from two to four lanes
- Installing curbs, gutters, storm sewers and street lighting to accommodate future development
- Building a multi-use path on the west side of Ninth Line, from Steeles Avenue to south of Fieldside Street, that will connect to the City of Toronto’s future path at Steeles Avenue
Ninth Line/Donald Cousens Parkway from Fieldside Street to 14th Avenue:
- Road rehabilitation and intersection work to maintain assets and improve operations
- Rehabilitating the road for a smoother, reliable commute
- Upgrading the Ninth Line/Donald Cousens Parkway and Box Grove Bypass intersection to improve traffic flow and accessibility
- Replacing the sidewalk between Fieldside Street and Box Grove Bypass with a new multi-use path
Duration
- Spring 2026 to late 2027
- As with all construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible
Traffic Impacts
- Lane reductions outside of peak travel times
- Some night work and weekend work will be required
- Access will be maintained for all driveways/entrances
- We understand construction creates challenges for the community and will work to deliver this project with minimal disruption
