Celebrating Canada’s 159th birthday
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Canada Day. This day is an opportunity to reflect on the strength, unity and shared values that define Canada.
Throughout our country and across York Region, we recognize the beauty of our landscapes and rich cultural heritage, reflecting our source of pride for all who call it home.
We are fortunate to live in a country enriched by people from many cultures, backgrounds and experiences. This diversity strengthens our communities and helps to make Canada such a great country to live, work, raise a family and visit.
At the same time, it is important to acknowledge July 1 carries different meanings for different people. For many Indigenous Peoples, this day represents a complex history marked by loss, resilience and ongoing challenges. Recognizing these perspectives is an important part of moving forward together towards reconciliation as we continue to learn, listen and support each other.
How you choose to mark this day, whether attending local events, spending time with loved ones, supporting your local businesses or simply reflecting, Canada Day offers the chance to celebrate the spirit of community.
Happy Canada Day, everyone.
