Celebrate York Region Transit’s 25th anniversary of service
Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York is inviting members of the media to commemorate YRT’s 25th anniversary with York Regional Council. The celebration will include a photo opportunity with a specially wrapped bus and a display of YRT archives and memorabilia.

Background
YRT’s progress over the past 25 years is an achievement made possible through the support of York Regional Council, together with the work of staff, community partners and transit users. Since amalgamation in 2001, YRT ridership has increased more than 30%, from 7.7 million to 24.7 million in 2024.
