COVID-19, Flu and RSV Vaccines Available Now
Get Vaccinated to Prevent Severe Illness and Protect Holiday Plans
Respiratory illness season is underway and the beginning of influenza season was officially declared last week. Experts predict this flu season will peak in late December 2025 and early January 2026, right when everyone is gathering to celebrate the holidays.
The influenza vaccine takes two weeks to become effective, so there is still enough time to protect yourself from severe illness and keep plans as scheduled. This year's influenza vaccine prevents serious illness and hospitalizations, even when it is not a perfect match for some circulating strains.
It is strongly recommended everyone aged six months and older get both flu and COVID-19 vaccines. The RSV vaccine is also available for:
- Adults aged 75 and older
- Adults aged 60–74 who meet specific high-risk criteria
- Infants up to 8 months old during their first RSV season
- Pregnant women
- Children up to 24 months of age who are at high risk
York Region’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Karachiwalla, brought her little champion to get the COVID-19 and the flu vaccines! Receiving both vaccines at the same time is safe and recommended, avoiding the need for multiple visits.
Immunization remains the best defense against severe illness and hospitalization—especially for children, older adults and anyone with underlying medical conditions. Combining immunization with healthy habits, such as staying home when sick, frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and regular cleaning and disinfection of high-touch surfaces further reduces the spread of seasonal viruses.
Where to Get Vaccinated
COVID-19 and flu vaccines are available at participating pharmacies, doctor or nurse practitioner’s offices, or walk-in medical clinics. Call in advance to ensure they have the vaccine(s) in stock and check if you need an appointment.
Pharmacies do not provide the free RSV vaccine. Please contact your doctor or nurse practitioner’s office to confirm if they offer the RSV vaccine and whether an appointment is required.
