York Region Transit (YRT) service changes take effect Sunday, August 31, 2025
Newmarket – York Region Transit (YRT) service changes will take effect Sunday, August 31, 2025. Schedule and route changes are made to meet changing customer demand.
YRT service changes effective Sunday, August 31, 2025 include:
- Route 4 – Major Mackenzie: Reconstructed to end at Major Mackenzie West Terminal on the west end
- Route 6 – Major Mackenzie: Introduced new route to expand coverage west of Major Mackenzie West Terminal and serve the growing community of Nashville Heights
- Route 50 – Queensway: Diverted along Jim Mortson Drive to serve the new Health and Active Living Plaza in the community of Queensville, opening this year
- Route 87 – Autumn Hill: Reconstructed to travel via Confederation Parkway and Peter Rupert Avenue, ending at Maple GO Station
- Routes 91 and 91A – Bayview: Combined into Route 91 – Bayview, with Sunday/holiday service on Woodriver Street and Subrisco Avenue
- On-Request Kleinburg-Nashville: Expanded to include new subdivision in the southeast corner of Teston Road and Pine Valley Drive
- On-Request King and On-Request Gormley: Consolidated into On-Request North-Central service area with improved service, including:
- New service to the Vandorf employment area and the community of Preston Lake, with connections to Bloomington GO Station and Aurora
- New weekday non-rush hour and weekend service in the Township of King and community of Gormley
- New service between Oak Ridges and the Gormley and Bloomington GO stations
- On-Request Stouffville: Extended to operate Monday to Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

YRT helps students gear up for back to school
Starting Monday, August 25, 2025, YRT reinstates School Special routes and adjusts regular routes to accommodate the back-to-school demand.
High School Specials will be reinstated for the 2025/2026 school year, with additional changes made to the following School Specials:
- Route 406 – Markham District School Special via Bur Oak: Discontinued due to low ridership
- Route 414 – St. Katharine Drexel School Special: Added afternoon trip to meet growing ridership
- Routes 426 and 428 – Dr. G.W. Williams School Specials: Restructured to service school's relocation to 11 Spring Farm Road
- Routes 429, 433, 434 and 436 – Cardinal Carter School Specials: Restructured to improve efficiency and alignment with student demand and updated bell times
- Route 431 – Aurora School Special via McClellan: New for Aurora High School students
- Route 463 – St. Joan of Arc School Special via Keele: Introduced to serve Ravineview Drive and Keele Street to/from St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School
- Route 469 – Father Bressani School Special: Restructured to serve students living in the community of Vellore, travelling via Fossil Hill Road, Vellore Avenue, Canada Drive and Vellore Woods Boulevard; one new morning trip will be introduced

Youth (ages 13 to 19), adults (ages 20 to 64) and seniors (ages 65+) can enjoy discounted fares through the PRESTO card, PRESTO mobile wallet and PRESTO E-Tickets. YRT also offers several discount and fare assistance programs such as the Transit Assistance Program, One Fare, Ride to GO and Fare Capping.
Students travelling to school with a bike can also use the two bicycle racks designed for easy handling. You pay regular fare but your bike rides for free. Please ensure you have a properly fitted helmet on when travelling on a bike or scooter.
