Ignite Volunteerism: Thanking the Volunteers Who Enrich Our Long-term Care Homes
In recognition of National Volunteer Week 2026 (April 19 to 25), we proudly celebrate the volunteers who ignite volunteerism in our communities, including those at our two long-term care homes at Maple and Newmarket Health Centres.
Guided by this year’s theme, Ignite Volunteerism, we honour the passion, compassion and commitment that fuel meaningful connections and deepen our collective impact.
This year is especially significant, as 2026 marks International Volunteer Year, a once-in-a-generation opportunity to recognize the power of civic participation and renew Canada’s culture of volunteering. Every act of service, whether offering companionship, lending skills or supporting daily activities creates a ripple effect that strengthens our long-term care homes and the communities around them.
Volunteer at York Region Long-term Care Homes
Maple and Newmarket Health Centres accept volunteer applications on an ongoing basis and contact applicants as opportunities become available. Volunteering offers a rewarding opportunity to learn new skills, gain experience, build friendships and foster a sense of purpose. Research continues to show that giving back supports physical and mental well-being, while creating a strong sense of belonging.
All volunteers receive comprehensive orientation, training, ongoing staff support and flexible scheduling options. To ignite volunteerism and be part of something meaningful, visit york.ca/LTCVolunteer to learn more or apply today.
