York Region Celebrates Paramedic Services Week: Honouring the Lifesaving Work of Paramedics
York Region is joining communities across Canada in recognizing Paramedic Services Week 2026, taking place from May 17 to 23. This national observance highlights the critical role paramedics play in caring for people in their communities and raises awareness about injury prevention, emergency preparedness and the importance of timely medical response.
Each year, the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs selects a theme to guide awareness efforts. The 2026 theme, “Better Care Starts Here,” reflects the commitment paramedics bring to every patient interaction—whether responding to emergencies, supporting community health programs or providing care in people’s homes.
Family Fun Day Returns May 23
To celebrate the week, Paramedic Services will co-host a Family Fun Day with Public Works on Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free, family friendly event will take place at the York Region Public Works Operations Centre and Paramedic Services Headquarters, located at 80 and 90 Bales Drive East in the Town of East Gwillimbury.
Residents are invited to explore interactive displays, meet first responders and learn about the essential services that keep York Region running—roads, transit, water, recycling, forest conservation and emergency response. The event also provides an opportunity to showcase the skills, professionalism and community focused work of York Region Paramedic Services.
