Happy Holiday’s from The Regional Municipality of York
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, it is my pleasure to extend warmest wishes to all York Region residents celebrating this holiday season.
York Region is one of the most diverse communities in Canada, with residents speaking 120 different languages and representing 238 distinct ethnic origins. Our communities are home to residents who practice different faiths with a variety of religious and cultural holidays celebrated.
In December alone, the Jewish community celebrates Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, Buddhists observed Bodhi Day, Christians celebrate Advent and Christmas, many residents of African descent celebrate Kwanzaa, Pagans and Wiccans observe Yule and the Winter Solstice, Latin Americans recognize Las Posadas and Zoroastrians mark the death of the prophet Zarathushtra.
Regardless of faith or religious observance, this special time of year offers an opportunity to gather with loved ones and family to both celebrate and learn more about the faiths and traditions of those we share our communities with.
The holiday season is a time for reflection, gratitude and the joy of being surrounded by loved ones. It is an opportunity to reflect on the past year and to embrace the spirit of unity and community that defines York Region. Together, we have faced challenges and triumphs, and it is through this collective strength that we continue to build vibrant and resilient communities for all.
On behalf of York Regional Council, thank you for being an integral part of our community. May the coming year be filled with prosperity, good health and countless moments of joy.
Happy holidays to you and your loved ones.
