York Region honours lives lost to COVID-19
York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York today held a moment of silence for the 312 York Region residents who have sadly lost their lives to COVID-19 in 2022.
Since 2020, COVID-19 has had an immeasurable impact on how we learn, work, connect with family and friends and live our daily lives. Our health care and other essential workers have put themselves at risk so we could continue to have access to the services and care we all need. Each of us have made sacrifices to support the well-being of our communities.
Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of residents, those on the front lines of the pandemic response and the countless individuals who rolled up their sleeves for the COVID-19 vaccines, we have learned to live with this virus and continue to return to our normal way of living.
From day one of this pandemic, protecting the health and safety of York Region residents has been the top priority for Regional Council and York Region Public Health. Today, as we remember those who have tragically lost their lives to this virus and the impacts felt by everyone across our communities, we also look ahead with hope and optimism.
On behalf of Regional Council and more than 1.2 million residents who call York Region home, I extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of those who have lost their lives to COVID-19. We honour each of these individuals by reaffirming our commitment to protecting the health and safety of all who live and work in our communities.
