York Region mourns death of Ontario Provincial Police Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I extend deepest condolences and sympathies to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala.
Constable Pierzchala, a one-year veteran of the OPP, was killed while serving in the line of duty on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, near the community of Hagersville, Ontario.
The loss of a member of the police service is a loss to all who call Ontario home. The men and women who selflessly serve in the RCMP, OPP and local police forces do so to protect the safety and well-being of our communities and uphold our justice system. In 2022, we have mourned the loss of far too many members of Ontario’s police services, and it saddens me to close out the year with yet another senseless loss of life.
We ask so much of those who serve our communities as paramedics, firefighters and police officers, and we offer our support as they mourn the loss of a colleague in uniform.
I join Regional Council, the York Regional Police Services Board, the residents of York Region and those in uniform in celebrating the life and mourning the loss of a dedicated and hard-working member of the OPP.
We will keep Constable Pierzchala, his family and his colleagues in our hearts as we collectively grieve this terrible loss.
