York Region offers Passover and Easter Greetings
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I offer warmest wishes to residents across York Region celebrating the Easter and Passover holidays.
Tonight, Jewish communities across York Region and around the world will celebrate the beginning of Passover and commemorate the Exodus and liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt.
This eight-day festival celebrates freedom, the power of home and the strength and perseverance of the Jewish people. It is also an opportunity for residents across our communities to reaffirm our commitment to building welcoming and inclusive communities and stand against antisemitism, oppression and hatred in all its forms.
Beginning Friday, April 7, 2023, and culminating on Sunday morning, York Region’s Christian communities will celebrate Easter to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and reflect on the message of hope, forgiveness, compassion and redemption.
York Region is one of the fastest growing and most diverse communities in Canada. Our residents come from 238 distinct ethnic origins, and 68% report having a religious affiliation.
Whether Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh or non-religious, this diversity is a source of strength and contributes to the rich cultural fabric of our communities.
During this holy week, we celebrate the significant contributions of our Jewish and Christian residents and celebrate our common commitment to building a better and more inclusive York Region for all.
On behalf of Regional Council, I extend our warmest wishes for a time filled with joy, optimism and hope to all who celebrate Passover and Easter.
