Flu and COVID-19 – One visit, two vaccines
This fall, protect yourself and others from COVID-19 and the flu!
As of October 30, 2023, everyone 6 months and older can now book an appointment for the updated COVID-19 vaccine and flu shot.
Eligible individuals are recommended to get an updated COVID-19 vaccine dose if it's been at least six months since their last COVID-19 vaccine dose or since they last had COVID-19.
It is safe to receive both vaccines at the same time. Individuals can get one vaccine or get both flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same appointment.
Did you know?
A new updated COVID-19 vaccine will provide the best protection from severe illness – it closely targets current COVID-19 strains circulating in the community.
We know protection decreases over time. Getting vaccinated when you are eligible will help build your protection against COVID-19 and the flu over the fall and winter months. Vaccination layered with personal protective measures and preventing the spread of respiratory infections continues to be our strongest defense against COVID-19 and the flu.
High-risk populations
It’s important for high-risk populations to get vaccinated now with the new XBB.1.5 COVID-19 vaccine and flu shot, including:
- Residents, staff and caregivers at long-term care homes
- Residents and staff of congregate living homes (retirement homes and other settings)
- Individuals 65 years of age and older
- Health care workers and first responders, including hospitalized people and hospital staff
- Pregnant individuals (both vaccines are safe in pregnancy)
- Individuals six months of age and older with underlying health conditions
- Children aged six months to five years will also be prioritized based on their increased risk of severe outcomes from influenza (but will be able to get both COVID-19 and influenza vaccine at the same time)
- Individuals who identify as First Nation, Inuit or Metis and their household members
- Members of racialized and other equity-deserving communities
