York Region recognizes June as Seniors Month
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, it brings me great pleasure to recognize June as Seniors Month.
Seniors Month in Ontario is a time to celebrate the important contributions of older adults and the impacts they have made and continue to make within our communities. It also recognizes the important role communities play in meeting the needs of older adults and helping them age in place with dignity.
This year’s theme, Working for Seniors, recognizes the hard work seniors have done all their lives to make our communities such great places to live. At the same time, it acknowledges the role of government in promoting wellness, social connections and unity, and in removing barriers to programs and services for older adults.
Regional Council remains committed to supporting the health and well-being of our aging population through the York Region Seniors Strategy, which balances the needs of all generations while also keeping seniors healthier, supporting age-friendly communities and connecting seniors to the right services at the right time.
During Seniors Month, all residents are encouraged to reach out and connect with the older adults who have shaped our communities and made a meaningful difference in our personal, professional and community life.
On behalf of York Regional Council and more than 1.2 million residents who call our communities home, I wish all older adults a happy Seniors Month and thank you for your contributions towards a strong, caring, safe York Region.
