York Region provides convenient public drop-off depots where residents can bring recycling, garbage, household items, yard waste, electronics and other items for recycling and disposal. Each depot accepts a variety of items, please review the list of accepted items before visiting.

  • Tree branches (No larger than 15 cm [six inches] in diameter or 1.8 metres [six feet] long)

Fees and Charges

  • No charge for residential loads of yard waste less than one cubic yard (York Region residents only) (For loads over one cubic yard, payment is required for the whole load)
  • $65 per tonne for all loads of yard waste more than one cubic yard
  • $65 per tonne for all commercial, industrial or institutional yard waste

How much is one cubic yard?

  • One cubic yard is 3’x3’x’3
  • Full sized pick-up truck box (maximum size: 8’x5.33’x7.6”) is one cubic yard when filled flat
  • Nine kraft paper yard waste bags is approximately one cubic yard

Do business customers get one cubic yard free?

No. All commercial customers using vehicles with commercial decals/lettering/business names will pay $65 per tonne for all loads.

How to use the Depot

This site is to be used by York Region residents and businesses only. Proof of residency is required.

  1. Enter site
  2. Drive up to scale.
  3. Approach inbound scale on green light or as directed by staff. Identify waste materials to be disposed of, attendant will issue the appropriate waste ticket.
    • Fee of $125 per metric tonne applies to all dedicated/mixed loads of concrete, drywall, garbage and wood, including any such mixed load that contain recyclables.  Note: A $10 minimum fee applies (for loads up to 100kg)
    • Dedicated/mixed loads of blue box recyclables, polystyrene, shredded paper, scrap metal, household hazardous waste (residential only), tires and electronic waste will remain free of charge.  Limits may apply.
  4. Exit scale on green light or as directed.
  5. Drive to unloading area(s). Place materials in designated areas, or as directed.
  6. After unloading, vehicles must drive to outbound scale.
    • Approach scale on green light, or as directed.
    • Return waste ticket to attendant and have payment ready. Credit card, debit, cash accepted.  Pay fee (if applicable) and exit site as directed.

How to Plan Your Visit

  • Load and organize your vehicle according to site layout and fee structure: 
    • Dedicated/mixed loads of concrete, drywall, garbage, and wood, a $125/metric tonne fee applies.  Note: If any such load also contains recyclable materials, the fee applies to the entire load. Alternatively, you may circle the site twice to avoid fees on the recyclable materials in your mixed load. 
    • Considering bringing a load of recyclables one day and a load containing concrete, drywall, garbage and wood on another.
    • Dedicated/mixed loads of blue box recyclables, polystyrene, shredded paper, metal, household hazardous waste (residential only), tires and electronic waste will remain free of charge.
  • Remember to separate concrete, drywall, garbage and wood from the recyclables when packing your vehicle, so it’s quicker to unload.
  • Schedule your visits during non-peak times (Friday or Sunday)
  • Consider managing additional waste through your municipal curbside collection program by purchasing bag tags from your local city or town.

Georgina Transfer Station, Household Hazardous Waste and Recycling Depot

NOTICE: The Georgina Transfer Station will include the following, effective January 1, 2018:

  • A new weight based fee structure of $125 per metric tonne will be introduced for:
    • Dedicated/mixed loads of concrete, drywall, garbage, wood  and yard waste ($10 minimum fee applies (loads up to 100kg)
    • Mixed loads of concrete, drywall, garbage, wood, yard waste and recyclables
  • Expanded hours for the HHW Depot include Tuesdays and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Residential HHW only)

York Region's certification to the ISO 14001 standard for waste management operations demonstrates its continued commitment to provide effective waste management services. This internationally recognized standard of excellence focuses on environmental management. All public waste management drop-off facilities are registered to ISO 14001. In order to achieve registration, an organization must establish, implement, maintain and continually improve its activities and business processes. The registration process includes evaluation and review by a third party, at least annually.
