Water and Wastewater Construction Projects

York Region has scheduled projects for building water and wastewater structures and facilities over the next 10 years. This 10 Year Capital Construction Program has been designed to meet the needs of York Region’s rapidly growing population.

Clean Water and Wastewater Fund

Investing in CanadaYork Region is anticipated to receive approximately $35 million in funding for several water and wastewater capital projects through the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF).

The Clean Water and Wastewater Fund provides funding to projects that contribute to the rehabilitation of both water treatment and distribution infrastructure and existing wastewater and storm water treatment systems; collection and conveyance infrastructure; and initiatives that improve asset management, system optimization, and planning for future upgrades to water and wastewater systems.

Current Construction Projects:

16th Avenue Sewer System Rehabilitation

York Region is conducting a full sewer rehabilitation of the existing sanitary sewer on 16th Avenue between Mingay Avenue and 9th Line, in the City of Markham.

Completion Date: August, 2019


Aurora — Tamarac Park Stormwater Management Pond Retrofit and Playground Facility

York Region, in partnership with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and the Town of Aurora, will be retrofitting the Tamarac Park Stormwater Management Pond at the southeast corner of Henderson Drive and McClellan Way in the Town of Aurora. After completion of the stormwater management pond retrofit, the Town of Aurora is proposing to upgrade the existing playground by expanding the playground area, replacing the existing equipment and replacing the basketball court.

Bayview Water Pumping Station Upgrades in the City of Markham

York Region is improving the Bayview Water Pumping Station located at 8171 Bayview Avenue. The work will extend the life of the pumping station and support the continued supply of safe, quality drinking water to your community.

 Completion Date: June, 2020


Bullock Drive Watermain Construction in the City of Markham

The watermain construction work includes replacing 2km of the existing watermain and value chambers on Bullock Drive between McCowan Road and Laidlaw Blvd.

Completion Date: Spring, 2019


Holland Landing Prairie Habitat Restoration Project

The restoration project is enhancing biodiversity by reinstating rare native prairie plants which become home to butterflies and species at risk birds such as the Eastern Meadowlark swallows and Bobolink songbird.

The project also includes planting several Butternut trees which have been transplanted from nearby construction areas to the Holland Landing Lagoons.  Butternut trees are a species at risk in Ontario.

Holland Landing Water Tower Re-painting – Plank Road

York Region is cleaning and re-painting the Holland Landing water tower located off Plank Road, in the Town of East Gwillimbury. This maintenance work will improve the aesthetics of the tower and protect the steel tank from corrosion. Weather-permitting, work is expected to take 6 weeks.

Completion Date: Fall 2019


Islington Watermain Rehabilitation City of Vaughan

The rehabilitation work is extending the life of the watermain which runs along Islington Avenue from Steeles Avenue West to Highway 7 and west to Kipling Avenue, in the City of Vaughan.

Completion Date: Fall, 2019


Keswick Sewage Pumping Station and Forcemain Upgrades

Improvements are coming to upgrade the Keswick Sewage Pumping Station including upgrades to the forcemain.  The upgrades to the station will not impact service to residents and the station will remain operational during the work.

Construction Date: Fall 2019


Maple Pumping Station Upgrades

York Region is upgrading the Maple Pumping station to ensure the continued supply of safe, quality drinking water to the community.

Completion Date: Spring, 2020


McCowan Road Residential Water Servicing

York Region is doing work in the City of Markham to upgrade approximately 300 metres of watermain along McCowan Road, north of Major Mackenzie Drive.  The work includes replacing the watermain and installing new valve chambers and two fire hydrants. There is no impact to your water services and access to all homes will be maintained.

Due to the nature of the work, there will be some construction-related noise and dust from the equipment and trucks, though every effort to minimize it will be made. As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather or other conditions.

Construction Date: From May 21 to October 31, 2019


Mount Albert Water Resource Recovery Facility Rehabilitation

York Region is rehabilitating the Mount Albert Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) located at 5866 Doane Road in the Town of East Gwillimbury. The work will extend the life of the equipment and provide necessary health and safety upgrades to the facility.

Construction will be limited to the facility, however there will be some construction related noise and dust, every effort to minimize it will be made. Access to all homes and buildings will be maintained. There will be an increase in construction related traffic in and out of the site, however there is no impact to your water and wastewater services. As with all construction projects, some work may be re-schedule due to weather or other conditions.

Completion Date: December, 2019


Mount Albert Wells Standby Generator Replacement

York Region is upgrading the Mount Albert wells located at 20 Hi-View Drive in the community of Mount Albert. The work will ensure the continued supply of safe, quality drinking water to your community.

Completion Date:  March 2020


Orchard Heights Booster Pumping Station Upgrade

York Region is improving the Orchard Heights Booster Pumping Station located at 240 Orchard Heights Boulevard in the Town of Aurora. This minor upgrade will ensure the continued supply of safe, quality drinking water to your community.

Construction will be limited to the site. There will be some construction-related noise from the equipment and trucks, every effort to minimize this will be made. As with all construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather. There is no impact to your water services.

Completion Date: June, 2019


Schomberg Water and Wastewater System Construction

The Schomberg Water Treatment Plant and Dr. Kay Sewage Pumping Station located in the Township of King will be undergoing maintenance construction activities.

Completion Date: January, 2020


Stouffville Elevated Tank Repainting and Upgrades

The elevated water tank will be repainted and the facilities upgraded to extend the lifespan of the tank and ensure the continued supply of safe, quality drinking water.

Completion Date: Spring, 2019


Sutton Water Resource Recovery Facility Expansion

Upgrades and a new tank, please expect additional truck traffic on Black River Road and some noise.

Construction Dates: Spring, 2019


Toronto Water Metre Upgrades City of Markham and the City of Vaughan

York Region and the City of Toronto are partnering to upgrade 13 Toronto water metre sites located throughout York Region. Phase one of the construction upgrades begin with six sites located in the City of Markham and City of Vaughan.

The roads will remain open to traffic however lane restrictions may be in place.

Completion Date: July, 2019


West Vaughan Sewage Servicing

The 14 kilometer sewer starts at the Kleinburg Water Resource Recovery Facility and ending at the Humber Sewage Pumping Station. This new trunk sanitary sewer and pump station upgrades will facilitate growth in the West Vaughan area to 2051.

Construction Begins: 2021


YDSS:

YDSS Forcemain Twinning Project, Town of Newmarket

The sanitary sewer forcemain work includes twinning of about 5.2 km of the existing forcemain and some upgrades to Newmarket and Bogart Creek Pumping Stations. The work is located in the Town of Newmarket from north of Davis Drive to south of Mulock Drive near the East Holland River.

Open House: May 15 and May 23, 2019

Construction Date: To be annouced in 2019

East Holland River Trunk Sewer Construction, Town of Newmarket

York Region is improving the East Holland River Trunk Sewer located near Bayview Parkway and Elgin Street. The work will extend the life of the sewer.

York Durham Sewage System Trunk Sewer Rehabilitation, City of Vaughan

York Region will be improving the York Durham Sewage System located on the west side of Jane Street and south of Rutherford Road. From December 10 to December 14, 2018 crews will be working overnight from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on the trunk sewer.
